The Ministry of Education (MoE) in partnership with Addis Ababa University (AAU), the Institute of Educational Research (IER)-Testing Center, is pleased to announce the test administration dates of the Graduate Admission Test (GAT) at national level from October 09 to 11, 2023 [መስከረም 28-30 ቀን 2016 ዓ.ም] at various public universities. We cordially invite prospective test takers to apply for the test between October 02 and 06, 2023 [መስከረም 21-25 ቀን 2016 ዓ.ም] and take mock exam on GAT one of the three days between October 4 and 6, 2023 [መስከረም 23-25 ቀን 2016 ዓ.ም]
Please follow the following steps to register and get your GAT admission ticket.
There are two options to apply for GAT:
- A) Using the Addis Ababa University portal (portal.aau.edu.et), and
- B) Using Telebirr SuperApp.
- A. You can apply for GAT using the Addis Ababa University portal:
1 Go to https://Portal.aau.edu.et [Open]
2 Select ‘Apply for GAT’ [click]
3 Complete the Registration Form [fill it with the details of the test taker ]
4 Upload your passport-size photo [test taker’s photo] (You can take a photo with a digital camera or smart phone, upload a photo from a device, or scan a paper photo. Photos must be in one of these file formats: .jpg, .gif, or .png).
5 Click on Submit button [Click]
6 Pay the GAT fee of 1000 (one thousand) birr using Telebirr payment system. (Once click on the Submit button, Telebirr page will be displayed for payment with two options: Option 1, using QR and Option 2, using phone number and PIN with OTP. You can pay using either of the two options. Foreign applicants are required to pay an equivalent of USD 50 in Ethiopian Birr; foreigners who apply for the GAT must register first by paying one thousand birr and later they have to pay the remaining balance to Addis Ababa University Commercial Bank of Ethiopia account number 1000087392067 and submit copy of the payment receipt to both the Testing Center Telegram Channel and show the copy of the payment receipt to the supervisor at their Exam Hall).
7 Download the GAT Admission Ticket. (On the test day, ensure that you bring the printed copy of the admission ticket with you to the test center. The test center staff will compare the photo on your admission ticket to ensure your identity and maintain security).

- B. You can apply for GAT using Telebirr SuperApp
- 1. Open your Telebirr SuperApp
- 2. Click on Apps
- 3. Select National Graduate Admission Test- GAT
- 4. Complete the Registration Form [fill it with the details of the test taker]
- 5. Upload your passport-size photo [test taker’s photo]
- 6. Click on Submit button [Click]
- 7. Payment page will be displayed [Insert PIN and click on pay] (Pay the GAT fee of 1000 (one thousand) birr using Telebirr payment system. - a) The GAT will be administered digitally, using the secure network infrastructure of the Ministry of Education. For detailed information about the exam, including exam dates, registration procedure, and other relevant updates, please visit the official website and join the Telegram channel mentioned above.
- b) There will be Mock Exam on GAT, which is a practice test to make test takers familiar with internet based testing (do not miss this opportunity).
- c) Visually impaired applicants will take the GAT with the help of a screen reader, JAWS; individual readers are not allowed for the GAT. Test takers with other forms of disabilities will be scheduled to rooms that are convenient for their conditions. Your requests must be channeled through the Testing Center Telegram Channel well ahead of time.
- d) Please note that the GAT fee is non-refundable. Therefore, applicants should carefully consider their eligibility and readiness before submitting their application and making the payment.
