Objectives/Goals

At Wolkite University, research, community engagement, and technology transfer from the cornerstone of our institutional mission. Our primary objective is to advance the university’s research and technology transfer agenda by fostering strategic partnerships, innovation-driven projects, and community-centered research initiatives.

My vision is to cultivate a problem-solving, sustainable, and forward-looking research culture that aligns with both national development priorities and global scientific advancements. Through these efforts, we aim to create impactful knowledge, support sustainable development, and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic growth of our communities and the nation at large.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction for research, technology transfer, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate research and technology transfer programs.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary research aligned with institutional and national priorities.
  • Develop capacity-building programs for faculty and researchers.
  • Establish and strengthen partnerships with local, national, and international research institutions.
  • Promote innovation, technology dissemination, and knowledge transfer.
  • Oversee the preparation and execution of academic and research calendars.
  • Lead grant proposal development and funding acquisition efforts.
  • Ensure adherence to research ethics and quality assurance standards.
  • Conduct performance assessments and support professional growth for research staff.
  • Enhance visibility of research outputs and maintain up-to-date records on the university’s digital platforms.
  • We are dedicated to excellence in generating impactful knowledge, fostering innovation, and serving the broader community through meaningful collaboration and sustainable development.

3. Team Building & Management

Objectives/Goals

Primary Objective: Coordinating, monitoring and leading the overall research activities of the university.

Duties and Responsibilities

*      Plans, organizes, leads, manages and controls the activities of all research programs;

*      Develops, recommends and implements policies and administrative procedures for research programs;

*      Follows up the proper implementation of policies, rules and regulations for research programs;

*      Makes recommendations for fostering the development of research programs;

*      Facilitates the development of interdisciplinary research programs in consultation with the concerned academic units;

*      Coordinates internal and external assistance for research programs and allocates resources in consultation with the concerned bodies;

*      Develops work program (strategic plan) for efficient management of existing and expanding research programs, and launching new ones;

*      Develops plans, sets priorities for establishment of core laboratories and research facilities and oversees the implementation of plans;

*      Promotes and initiate the development of appropriate incentive schemes in the University for researchers;

*      Evaluates existing research capacity and identifies gaps and priority areas.

*      Follows up implementation of plans for research capacity building including establishment of core laboratories and other research facilities;

*      Undertakes periodic identification of research thematic areas;

*      Coordinates and facilitates research activities.

*      Coordinates and facilitates collaborative research programs with donors and funding agencies;

*      Coordinates, registers, monitors and follows up research and related activities;

*      Checks regular progress reports on the research programs;

*      Evaluates periodic reports of all colleges/Schools on research activities.;

*      Prepares and disseminates research outputs;

*      Prepares and submits periodic performance report to the appropriate authority of the University;

*      Allocates PhD dissertation research and master’s thesis research funds to Departments/Schools/Units;

*      Links PhD and masters researches with thematic areas, sponsored research projects, grants and external funding;

*      Charters duties and responsibilities to Vice Dean for Research and Community Service, Technology Transfer and Industry Linkage  units under all colleges/schools;

*      Performs any other duties as may be required by the Research and technology transfer affairs Vice President (VPRTTA)
