Duties and Responsibilities

1. Academic Leadership

ü  Provide strategic leadership for social sciences and humanities education and research.

ü  Oversee curriculum development, program accreditation, and academic quality assurance.

ü  Ensure compliance with national education policies and standards.

2. Faculty and Staff Development

ü  Recruit, retain, and support faculty across social science and humanities disciplines.

ü  Provide professional development opportunities for faculty members.

ü  Encourage faculty involvement in national and international research projects.

3. Curriculum and Program Development

ü  Ensure the curriculum remains relevant and responsive to societal needs.

ü  Introduce interdisciplinary programs that address contemporary social and cultural issues.

ü  Promote innovative teaching methodologies, including digital and experiential learning.

4. Student Development and Support

ü  Enhance student internship, research, and community engagement opportunities.

ü  Support student organizations, academic clubs, and leadership development programs.

ü  Provide career counseling and mentorship services to students.

5. Research, Grants, and Funding

ü  Promote faculty and student research in social sciences, humanities, and public policy.

ü  Secure research funding from government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations.

ü  Encourage interdisciplinary research and collaborative initiatives.

6. Community and Cultural Engagement

ü  Develop partnerships with local communities, government institutions, and advocacy groups.

ü  Organize public lectures, cultural events, and community outreach programs.

10. Strategic Planning and Institutional Collaboration

ü  Align the College of Social Sciences and Humanities’ goals with Wolkite University’s strategic vision.

ü  Participate in university-wide governance and contribute to institutional policy-making.

ü  Assess faculty and student performance using key performance indicators (KPIs).

Historical Background

​The College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Wolkite University was established in the 2013 academic year as part of the university's strategic expansion to address the growing demand for education in social sciences and humanities disciplines. This initiative aimed to contribute to Ethiopia's socio-cultural development by producing graduates equipped to tackle contemporary societal challenges. ​

Initially, the college offered undergraduate programs in various fields within the social sciences and humanities. Over the years, it has expanded its academic portfolio to include additional disciplines and postgraduate studies, reflecting its commitment to academic excellence and research.​

The college emphasizes a holistic educational approach, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Students are encouraged to engage in research projects, community service, and internships, fostering a comprehensive understanding of societal issues and preparing them for professional roles in various sectors.​

Through continuous curriculum development, faculty enhancement, and community engagement, the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Wolkite University strives to produce competent professionals who can contribute effectively to the nation's development and address the complexities of the social world
