Admission

At the beginning of each semester, continuing students must complete the course registration process for the upcoming term. This process is carried out at the Office of Student Affairs within their respective colleges.

To register, students must obtain three copies of the registration form from their department. After completing the necessary details, the forms must be signed by the department or school head. One copy should be submitted to the College Office of Student Affairs, and another to the University Registrar’s Office.

Prospective applicants who meet the minimum entry requirements for each department are invited to apply through the Registrar’s Office at Wolkite University.

Graduate Programs

Graduate Admission

Admission to the Regular Graduate Program

Applicants seeking admission to Wolkite University's regular graduate programs must hold a bachelor's degree from a recognized higher education institution, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00. However, due to limited spaces, admission is highly competitive and granted based on merit.

In addition to academic qualifications, each applicant must submit two letters of recommendation, preferably from instructors or employers who are familiar with the candidate’s academic or professional performance and can attest to their readiness for graduate-level study.

All applicants are also required to provide proof of financial capacity, demonstrating their ability to cover tuition fees and research-related expenses. No applicant will be permitted to register or attend classes without submitting this documentation.

Admission Periods
Graduate admissions are conducted three times per academic year:

  •       Fall Semester: Beginning in September
  •        Spring Semester: Beginning in January
  •        Summer Semester: Beginning in July

Age Requirements
There are no age restrictions for applicants. Individuals of any age may apply to any field offered under each college and school.

However, all applicants must pass the postgraduate entrance examination and may also be required to meet additional criteria set by the relevant department and approved by the Council of Graduate Studies.

2. Undergraduate Programs

Undergraduate Program Admission (Regular Track)

Responsible Unit for Admission

Admission into regular, full-time undergraduate programs at the first-year level is coordinated and approved by the Office of the Registrar in collaboration with the respective academic colleges.

General Admission Requirements

As long as student placement remains under the authority of the Ministry of Education (MoE), and until Wolkite University assumes full responsibility for undergraduate admissions, applicants must meet the following minimum eligibility criteria:

  •          Candidates must have successfully completed preparatory education and achieved qualifying results on the Ethiopian University Entrance Examination (EUEE).
  •          Students who completed their secondary education outside Ethiopia must possess equivalent academic credentials as assessed by the Ministry of Education.
  •          Applicants are also required to either present proof of financial capability to cover tuition fees or enter into a Cost-Sharing Agreement in accordance with MoE regulations.

Admission with Advanced Standing

Students may seek admission to undergraduate degree programs with advanced standing (including post-basic BSc programs) if they meet specific academic and institutional requirements. The application is handled by the Registrar’s Office and the respective college admissions unit, subject to final approval from the College Academic Commission. Admission is based on available space and follows a competitive selection process.

Eligibility for Advanced Standing Admission includes:

  •          Successful completion of at least one academic year at a recognized institution of higher learning with a minimum CGPA of 2.00;
  •          Fulfillment of any specific departmental or college requirements;
  •          A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 upon graduation, where applicable;
  •          Relevant work experience in the desired field of study (if required);
  •          Positive recommendations from current or former employers (where applicable);
  •          Confirmed financial support, if applicable.

The University reserves the right to establish screening procedures to assess and verify the eligibility of applicants seeking advanced standing admission.

Furthermore, individuals currently enrolled in accredited tertiary institutions may apply for transfer or advanced standing, provided that their previously completed coursework aligns with the curricula offered by Wolkite University.

Special Entry into Medical School

Graduates holding a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree are eligible to apply for admission to the Medical School, provided they meet the specific entry criteria set by the college. The selection process is based on the following weighted components:

  •          College Entrance Examination – 20%: Applicants must pass an entrance exam administered by the college.
  •          Grade 12 University Entrance Examination Result – 30%
  •          First Semester Freshman Year Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) – 50%

These three components are collectively assessed to determine eligibility for admission through the special entry scheme.

Admission of International Students

The acceptance of international applicants is governed by the general admission policies of the Ethiopian Ministry of Education. Foreign students must meet the academic and institutional requirements set forth by the Ministry in order to gain admission to any undergraduate program at Wolkite University.
