Zero plan that can prevent female students from negative impact was officially inaugurated here in Wolkite University. The center was officially inaugurated by Dr. Faris Deli, President of Wolkite University. Dr. Faris Delil when he was conducting speech at International Women’s Day occasion, he said that the inaugural ceremony of this Zero plan center makes this year International Women’s Day celebration more special. As he noticed, Wolkite University Women, Children, Youth and HIV/AIDS Prevention & Control Directorate has organized this center for female students in order to prevent or safeguard them from sexual harassment, unwanted pregnancy, gender based violence, HIV/AIDS, stigma and discrimination, abortion, drop-out etc. Moreover, he also elaborated that the plan will also create a conducive environment for females to meet on scheduled program, to share and exchange their ample experiences with their peers, to conduct meaningful discussion among each other.
Furthermore, Dr. Faris also noticed that the opening of the center has many benefits in terms of enabling female students to use their potential to participate in various creative activities. He added that since students are come from different corners of Ethiopia, the discussion center is a place where female students share their culture, custom and beliefs. Dr. Faris also noted that to reduce and to make Zero the number of HIV/AIDS infecting and dying females, to avoid stigma and discrimination, to control unwanted pregnancy this center will play its own tremendeous role. Finally, Dr. Faris expressed that this is a good opportunity for female students to come together and to properly utilize the program.
