College of Agriculture and Natural Resource Management

 Background

College of Agriculture and Natural Resource is one of the seven colleges of Wolkite University. Following the establishment of the University, the college admitted 121 students in three departments (Agricultural Economics, Horticulture and Natural Resource Management) in 2012, for the first time. At that time, there were 23 academic staff and 3 supportive staff. The college launched Animal Production and Technology in 2013 and three departments (Agribusiness and Value Chain Management, Plant Science and Wildlife and Ecotourism Management) in 2015. Currently, in 2017, the college has seven departments (Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness and Value Chain Management, Animal Production and Technology, Horticulture, Natural Resource Management, Plant Science and Wildlife and Ecotourism Management) with a total of 901 students. As to the human resource, 65 academic staff (6 BSc, 55 MSc/MAand 4 PhD) and 23 supportive staff are on duty; 32 academic staff (14 for MSc/MA and 18 for PhD) are on study leave.

The college has planned to launch graduate program based on the need of the surrounding organizations in particular and the country at large. Currently, 2017, MSc in soil science is launched. Agronomy and Horticulture are expected to be launched in the near future.  

Mission

To produce knowledgeable, skillful and competent agricultural professionals that can contribute for the development of the country, by offering courses based on the harmonized curriculum of the country.

Vision       

We anticipate to be one of the best 10 Universities that have College of Agriculture and Natural Resource in East Africa by the year 2035.
