PROFILE OF NURSING DEPARTEMENT

Vision & Mission 

By sharing the vision of the University, Wolkite university department of Nursing aspires to be among the best ten leading training center for nurses in east Africa (by 2020 E.C) that produces competent nurse professionals in cognitive, attitude and skill who are responsive to societal needs.

 

In line to the mission of the University, the mission of the Wolkite university department of Nursing is to produce competent nurse professional at graduate, and post-graduate levels through academic excellence in the integration of teaching, practice and research; and the design of innovative health care programs; in partnership with the communities we serve to address health care needs of society.

 Staff composition

  Currently the nursing department of Wolkite University has a total of 15 instructors; 4 MSc holders, 11 BSc holders (7 Assistant lecturer & 4 graduate assistants II) and 2 Technical assistants.

Student’s composition

The nursing department of Wolkite University begins its function in the academic year 2008 by admitting 66 students (51 male and 15 female) from different parts of the country who Meet the criteria of the Ministry of Education and Wolkite University for degree students to join higher learning institution. Currently in 2009 the total number of students available in the department is 63 (49 male and 14 female. In the 2009 academic year the department is preparing to admit a total of 65 students.
